Why Signature Photos Get Rejected on Online Exam Portals
Across examination boards such as SSC, UPSC, IBPS, Railways (RRB), and State PSCs, signatures account for the single highest percentage of document rejection notices. Many candidates assume that snapping a quick photo of their signature on any scrap of paper with their smartphone is sufficient. However, modern automated portal screeners reject images for reasons that are invisible to the casual eye.
1. The Problem of Gray Paper and Phone Shadows
When you take a photo of a piece of paper indoors, ambient room lights create gradient shadows across the page. Even if the paper looks white to your eyes, your camera sensor records the background as shades of dull gray, yellow, or light brown (RGB values like #C8C5BD or #B2AEA5 instead of #FFFFFF).
When government software scales and compresses that gray background down to 10KB–20KB, it turns muddy. When printed on candidate hall tickets or admit cards, the signature becomes faint, smudged, or completely unreadable.
2. How Our "Paper Whitening" Algorithm Works
PDFALLTOOL includes an intelligent client-side canvas luminance filter. The algorithm loops through every pixel in your signature image and evaluates its mathematical brightness:
- Paper Pixels: Any pixel lighter than the threshold (such as off-white paper, camera shadows, and yellow indoor lighting) is pushed to pure digital white (
#FFFFFF). - Ink Pixels: Pixels darker than the threshold (the strokes of your pen) have their contrast amplified, making black or dark blue ink crisp, deep, and razor-sharp.
The result is a studio-grade, scanner-quality signature image created in 2 seconds directly on your phone.
3. Golden Rules for Exam Signatures
- Sign on Unruled White Paper: Never sign on lined school notebook pages. The horizontal blue lines cross your signature strokes and ruin automated clarity checks.
- Use a Smooth Gel or Liquid Ink Pen: A bold black or dark blue pen creates continuous, rich lines that withstand 15KB compression far better than a dry ballpoint pen.
- Sign in Running Hand: Do not sign in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS unless explicitly requested by the examination notification. Standard signature rules mandate natural cursive/running hand.
